During the Renaissance, the rendition of the human form was for the first time able to be portrayed with depth and in context. For many years after photography had been invented the only use was for portraiture. It was a medium all it's own and not considered an art form. Rubens' Influence on Van Dyck

One of the artists who helped define the Renaissance was Peter Paul Rubens.
